We’ve got some exciting news to share with you, and we promise to keep it straight to the point. The “Shiryou Sensen: War of the Dead” fan translation on MSX2 is officially here, dropping on December 23rd, 2023. It’s time to dive into the world of retro survival horror!

Resurrecting the Classic Shiryou Sensen: War of the Dead for MSX2

The Dank Team has worked hard to bring this 1988 gem to English-speaking audiences. “War of the Dead” was a Japanese exclusive, leaving gamers in the dark for far too long. But that’s all changed now, thanks to our fan translation that’ll transport you back to the ’80s horror gaming scene.

What’s New in the Package?

We’re not here to overhype it. Let’s get straight to the good stuff:

  1. Bugs: We’ve fixed a few bugs that plagued the game. Broken chests? Fixed. Menu controls acting up? Sorted. We’ve fine-tuned the game to ensure a smoother ride.
  2. Clarity Matters: While preserving the MSX2 experience, we’ve tweaked some text to make it less confusing. No more head-scratching moments; we’ve got you covered.
  3. Plot Unveiled Gradually: We’ve ditched the usual walkthrough in favour of a map. It’ll guide you through the game’s locations and treasures without giving away all the plot twists. We’re all about keeping the suspense intact!

  1. So I patched the game and I’m getting an SRAM error even though I set BlueMSX to ASCII-8 with SRAM. I’d really like to be able to save, so how can I fix this?

    1. Hey Blueskyrunner!
Thank you for downloading the patch! We have a section about SRAM and how to get around it in the read me that can help you with this.
      A Note on SRAM:
If you encounter an “SRAM ERROR,” don’t worry- Ensure your emulator or machine is set to use the “ASCII 8 with SRAM” mapper.

However, there is a solution if your system doesn’t support SRAM or you cannot get past the “SRAM ERROR” screen. You can try using the “wotdmsxen(nosave)” patch, which bypasses the SRAM check, but remember that this will disable the in-game save functions (so you are playing with savestates).

Please let me know if this helped out!

    2. The patch was tested on both bluemsx and openmsx, so both should work. What was the sha1 hash of your rom file before and after patching?
