Take it easy, Trojan Arcade @SRKFunkdoc

Funkdoc is back to streaming 1CC requests for his subscribers and most recently he picked up the arcade version of Trojan. Most people know Trojan for its NES release as it used to be a popular game for speed runners, but the arcade version to me looks a lot harder from my perspective. It took him a while, but Funkdoc was able to get that 1CC recently on stream! Congratulations & great to see you back streaming!

Twin Eagle @Trap0xf

Trap was streaming more Twin Eagle on his arcade set up in his apartment when I made this Dank Art for him. This game was one of the first arcade games back in 1988 to use digital sampling in both its graphics and its soundtrack. I doubt Trap is playing the euro version of this board because I only found that release has some horrible iconic “engrish”  where instead of saying “Game over” it will instead say: “The player game is abortion”
I also love drawing a two headed eagle for this game :p

Weaponlord for SFC @Macaw45

Macaw45 has been addicted to building games all week such as Afterlife and Sim City 2000, but he did manage to dig up this SFC copy of Weaponlord which he played thru on Saturday. The art to me is very 90’s stylized and is possibly some of the best backgrounds I’ve seen in a fighting game like this. The crazy thing about this fighter is if you lose a fight you can continue, but if your opponent performs a finishing move & kills you it’s game over. Yup. Even if you are all the way at the end of the game and that happens you’re stuck going all the way to the beginning again. However it works the same way if you perform finishing moves on the characters in the game. Killing them takes them out indefinitely so you do not have to fight them again.

IMG_2252Good buddy Greg made off with Murph’s Poison last weekend too. As soon as he saw her he was all “OH SHE’S PERFECT!” & handed me $20. Give her a good home, dude!

LordBBH had his crazy Viewers Choice Extravaganza last weekend on the same day as my crazy street festival I was promoting over social media. I’m lucky to have an apartment right in the middle of the actual street festival itself, so I kept taking breaks from covering that event to come in and paint Dank Art for his stream. Not all of these were done in a day as BBH decided to extend the extravaganza to Monday as well. My personal fave is the derp Bubs in the bottom corner because he’s just too darn cute :3

Sunday Streams IMG_2339I did a little retrospective on one of my fave arcade games, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs as well as showing off a bit of the Sega CD version of C&D. Let’s just say that if you love the arcade for its amazing high action Beat-em’up style and amazing music you are NOT going to find that in the Sega CD game. In fact on surface it’s a very poor game for the franchise where all you do is drive around in the cadillac moving the story along as if you were interacting with the actual comic book itself. I’m not knocking the concept of this game as I can see the potential, but it’s just too repetitive and hard to actually see what you should be shooting or not. Some stages drag on forever such as the opening level where most likely you’ll die & keep dying without making any progress at all. The only way I could get thru the first stage was to scum-save the entire way only to find out that the rest of the stages are just more driving but with slightly changed targets to shoot and also the later stages are not as long giving you a sense that you are making progress. It’s not a hot mess like some other Sega CD games that came out at the time, but the only thing it has going for it is the story itself which is hard to enjoy when you get to the actual game which is driving & shooting.

Mothers Day!IMG_2344Earthbound was released over 22 years ago a few days ago so I celebrated it with this image of Master Belch with a few Mr Saturns. As one of my favourite games out there, Earthbound has always been a huge part of my young life and for years it was a game I longed to have a copy that I can play on an HD TV & take anywhere. We actually got that a few years ago with not just Earthbound but Earthbound Beginnings, the NES game that came out before Earthbound. However fans are still waiting for the 3rd game in the series, Mother 3, to see a North American launch and will possibly continue to hopelessly wait for nothing to happen.

With a great game like Mother 3 and its fanbase being ignored, its disappointing that projects like a Bubsy remake/rebranding is happening. I’ll just reiterate the point I made in several tweets on this topic that Bubsy was always a terrible game that had one goal and that was to take your money away and its disappointing that companies will remake garbage ideas to sell back to a new generation of consumers who are unaware of the past but invested in the memes for reason of memes. You’re always going to see things like this sadly as properties such as Mother hold a little more value than Bubsy.
